Zev's Pinecone Wheels (2003-NYC)
Zev brought in a pair 48-spoke hubs and rims asking for a fancy spoke pattern.
I call it a pinecone pattern, wheelbuilders' define it as a 48-spoke 4 leading 4 trailing pattern
with twelve sets of leading (pushing) and trailing (pulling) spokes and four spokes per set.
I like how the wheel's center concentrates its form in splaying triads.
The freestyle hubs are Schwinn XS 4 x 4 V2, 48-hole,
with 54 mm flange diameter, weighing 440 grams (front) and 450 grams (rear).
The touring rims are Mavic T519 19-622,
with double eyelets, ERD of 604 mm, weight 585 grams each
The stainless steel spokes are DT Champion, 15 guage, 290 mm (front) and XX mm (rear)
