Omelenchuk track bicycle (c.1955-Warren, Michigan)
George Omelenchuk (see below) was a Ukraine-born speed skater and cyclist from Michigan,
a pioneer of the Wolverine Sports Club, who coached his wife, Jeanne Omelenchuk,
a three-times U.S. Olympic skater and recent USCF Masters Cycling Champion.
George Omelenchuk was a do-it-yourself bike maker, welding frames, machining hubs,
and extruding wheel rims. This one came from Sam Fitzsimmons at T-town swap meet,
just the frame, fork, headset, bottom bracket (Walton & Brown Ltd),
inch-pitch crankset (Williams), and 27.2mm seatpin (1/2" top clamp).
This frame features open-end fork blades top and bottom, and open-end seat stay tops.
Assembly complete with tubular wheels of Airlite low-flange 28-hole hubs,
Fiamme yellow label rims, with radial spoke pattern front and rear,
except drive side rear which is cross two, tied and soldered.
Also fit with Hi-Speed stem, track bars and Brooks leather saddle.
